Announcing the limited edition Basso Diamante designed by MAAP.
The MAAP-Basso Team are a group of mates that ride and race together in Melbourne. The team is not just about racing and results; it epitomises what it's like to be an amateur racer, picking out events on the calendar but always finding time in between training for a coffee spin with mates or a weekend away.
“We have teamed up with MAAP because we like the style of the brand and the products. I think the team will be great at the local crits, and events. I hope we can always make nice and fresh bikes for MAAP.” - Alessandro Basso.
MAAP's partnership with Basso was born in early 2016 when MAAP’s founders Ollie and Jarrad were in Italy visiting our apparel factory. After a meeting and tour of the factory where their top end frames are made, it was clear there was mutual interest in creating something special together.
"Alessandro Basso invited us to create our own edition of the Diamante which is their premier race frameset. The design itself is inspired by the MAAP-Basso team kit for 2017, but our intention was to create something that was timeless and stayed true to our brand identity." Oliver Cousins - MAAP.
The Diamante utilises Toray T1000 and T800 HI Modulus carbon fibre pre-preg. A widely used fibre in the automotive, aviation and military industries. The Basso Toray is made even more resistant to impacts and fatigue stress through their use of specific proprietary resins.
The “monolithic” front frame section, made by the semi-integrated front fork / frame / stem / headset, provides a more aerodynamic and aggressive position, ideal for Pro Racers; for those who require a less “stretched”, more raised position, a conical shaped spacer is available (comfort kit). The conical shaped spacer rests on the base of the headset and effectively raise the stem without losing the linearity of the headtube form. Additionally, a new upper fork shape has been developed to virtually stretch into the lower part of the frame allowing the steering stresses to be discharged over a wider surface and thereby facilitating manoeuvrability in challenging curves.
